KOTAK TAJI - COCKSPUR CASES
Nicely carved cockspur case, Kotak Taji, in the shape of an owl. Lombok, wood, before 1940.
1925-1940
This case is a good example of pure folk art. This was not a decorative object, but at the time in use during the cock fighting. The middle panel shows a deer, most likely to bring the owner luck. In the case there is room for 6 spurs. A similar case is shown in the standard book about cockspur cases by Pieter van Donk, Indonesian Cockspur Cases, on page 52.
