TOBO-00721
Ceremonial bell used by Brahman priests on Bali. Before 1950. Brass
1920-1950
This bell was made and used before 1950. Its condition is still excellent. Only Balinese priests were allowed to use these bells during their ceremonies. When the bell came into contact with a stranger or when it fell down, the bell was declared unclean and disposed off from the dessa. The five-point top is called a "vajra", a buddhist symbol reflecting the male principle of mehodology (upaya) to achieve enlightment. The deep dark green colour and nice patin show a high percentage of copper. Beautiful sound when jingled.
Very good quality
Height 17 cm - Width 7 cm
In proper condition. Brass is a alloy of copper and tin. After corrosion a green oxide-layer is revealed.
